Bay. Observers: m. ob. Reporter: Ron Smith. Directions: From I-75 in
northern Manatee County, take I-275 towards Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
Exit on US 41 (before bridge), driving north into Hillsborough County.

(will have a No Outlet sign). Drive 0.3 miles to where the street makes
a 90 degree turn to the left (east). Continue to cul-de-sac on left

large, dead "twiggy" tree near cul-de-sac, but also has ranged farther
down Lost River Trail, across water to the strawberry farm, and other
areas around the lake. Check fence posts and tops of vegetation in
entire area. VERY IMPORTANT--STRAWBERRY FARM

2/8/12--possibly as many as four Neotropic Cormorants, Palm Beach
County, Wakodahatchee Wetlands. Observers: Ardith Bondi, m. ob.
Directions: From Florida's Turnpike, exit at Atlantic Avenue (exit 81).
Drive east 1.7 miles to Jog Road. Turn left and drive north 1.5 miles to
the entrance (no fee, open sunrise to sunset). GPS coordinates where
Neotropic was photographed at nest: N26°28.734', W80°08.609'. (DeLORME
p. 109) From parking lot, walk out boardwalk and take left at "T"
intersection. Continue past line of trees on both sides of boardwalk.
Cormorants' nests are in stand of trees out from but closest to left
side of boardwalk. Apparently, Neotropics aren't nesting now, but do use
trees in same location to rest during day and roost at night. Today, one
Neotropic was still present at noon, and moved about from tree to tree
for approximately two hours before flying out of area. See photo of
Neotropics at . (Google
earth map with nest location courtesy of Mark and Holly Salvato.)

established territory encompassing mid-point of loop on Nature Trail
(designated by * on map) over to area opposite that on first unpaved
trail going off to left after entering park and going past circle of
paved entrance trail. ("Stay on marked trail" sign at beginning of this

1/23/12- -Two Green-tailed Towhees, Pinellas County, Safety
Harbor Possum Branch Preserve. Observers: m.ob. Directions: From
intersection of US 19 and SR 60 in Clearwater, go east on SR 60 to
McMullen Booth Road (CR 611). [From I-275 in Tampa, take CR 589
(Memorial Highway) to SR 60 (Courtney Campbell Causeway), then go
west to McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater.] Turn north and go past
Main Street in Safety Harbor to just north of Mease Countryside
Hospital (3231 McMullen Booth Rd.) The entrance to the Preserve is
just before reaching Curlew Road (CR586-DeLORME p. 82). There is no
sign on CR611, but there's a small pull-off for parking and beyond
that a closed gate with small sign. From entrance walk straight back
150-200 yards to end of gravel road. Go left and head for a yellow
post on the wetland side of the wide grass strip. Just past is an
earthen/sunken block old boat ramp, and about 10 yards past the boat
ramp along the brush line are two small open areas where seed is
being placed for towhees. Also watch for Lincoln's and Grasshopper
sparrows, and Hispid Cotton Rat coming to seed.
